A ventral caudal pontine stroke, caused by occlusion of the basilar paramedian branches, would injure the exiting abducens nerve along with the descending corticospinal tract. A dorsolateral caudal pontine stroke, caused by an occlusion of AICA, would injure CN VII and VIII, and could also injure the abducens nucleus. In either case, any ocular palsy involved would be an abducens palsy, but in this scenario, both eyes are able to abduct–look laterally on lateral gaze. Return to the case to try again.
